Prison Officials Forcefully Shave Off Beard Of Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong Jailed By Akwa Ibom Chief Judge, Obot

According to SaharaReporters, Nigerian human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has been tortured in prison.

He was allegedly assaulted and tortured by officials of the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State who used blunt instruments to forcefully shave off his beard.

The lawyer was injured in the process, SaharaReporters has gathered.

Inibehe was jailed by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaette Obot for alleged contempt.

The lawyer was on Wednesday secretly transferred from the Ikot Ekpene Medium Security Custodial Center to the Uyo Custodial Center.

Meanwhile, the illegal imprisonment has attracted condemnation from civil society organisations and many Nigerians.

A non-governmental organisation, ‘Nude Nigeria-The Best Man,’ in collaboration with Next-of-Kin and some concerned youths of Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State last Saturday, took to the streets to protest the incarceration of Effiong.

The protesters, who displayed placards with inscriptions such as: “Injury to one is injury to all”, “Free Inibehe Effiong Now!”, “Justice for Inibehe Effiong,” and “We demand immediate release of Inibehe,” called on to the Judge to immediately order the release of the lawyer.

Addressing journalists during the joint protest in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the convener of ‘Nude Nigeria-The Best Man’, Princess Mikki Attah, expressed disappointment over the continued incarceration of Effiong whom she described as a law-abiding citizen.

She said she decided to join other voices in calling for Effiong’s release after learning about how Effiong was sent to jail for asking the Chief Judge to send security men out of the courtroom.

Tantita Security Services Ltd, the security outfit that has been successfully handling the surveillance and protection of oil and gas installations in the Niger Delta on behalf of the federal government has built a transit accommodation for soldiers in Delta State.

Owned by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, the security outfit recently completed and commissioned the reconstructed the 3 Battalion Soldiers’ Transit Accommodation at Effurun Barracks, Delta State.

The facility which was redesigned, reconstructed, and fully furnished before being formally handed over to the Army authorities, Tuesday, is in line with Tantita’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.

It is equipped with state-of-the-art amenities designed to enhance the living conditions of soldiers stationed at the barracks.

Veteran Journalist, Pa Adeniyi, Goes Home Saturday

The remains of Pa Richard Adeniyi, veteran maritime reporter, will be committed to mother earth in his hometown, Ondo in Ondo State, Saturday, June 8, 2024.

 

A long-standing member of the foremost maritime beat association, the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN), Pa Richards passed away in April 2024 at the age of 86.

 

Mr. Adeniyi, fondly referred to as ‘Baba Richard’ had an illustrious career in news-reporting which spanned several decades, during which he worked with prominent newspapers, including the Daily Times of Nigeria.

 

Lately, when the weaknesses associated with the ageing process and other natural failures came up, Pa Richards refused to be deterred from practising news reporting – a passion he enjoyed. Till death, he was an active member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), contributing remarkably to activities in the Lagos State Council.

 

Throughout his career, Mr. Adeniyi played a pivotal role in maritime journalism, providing insightful reporting that aided in the development of Nigeria’s seaports. His dedication and contributions to the field were widely recognized and appreciated by his peers and the industry at large.

 

According to a release by MARAN Vice President, Gboyega Oni, on Friday, June 7, Pa Adeniyi’s funeral rites will commence with a service of songs and a Christian Wake-keep.

Interment will take place on Saturday, June 8, followed by a reception at the Ariya Event Centre, Olufisayo Street, Sabo Road, Ondo.

 

Baba’s contributions to maritime reporting will be remembered  by his colleagues, friends, and family.

Mama Theresa Enisuoh Due For Burial April 27

The burial ceremony of Madame Theresa Enisuoh of Agbere in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa takes place April 27, 2024. Reception of guests and mourners is at Agbere Community School Field.

 

As stated in a funeral announcement from the Enisuoh Family, the burial event will take place at 10 am.

 

Mrs. Enisuoh, fondly called “Nurse” is the mother of Capt Warredi Enisuoh, the Executive Director, Operations and Technical Services, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd. She passed on to glory on March 21, 2024.

 

Until her death, family members and neighbours testify, Mrs. Theresa Enisuoh lived a dedicated christian life.

 

“Mrs. Theresa Enisuoh who hailed from Agbere in Sagbama Local Government area in Bayelsa state, died on March 21 and until her death, lived a dedicated christian life”, the source said.

 

She is survived by five children, twelve grandchildren, one son- in-law, a brother and other relatives.
